A RECORD ENTRY

SALE OF FAT SHEEP. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. With au entry of 5500 fat sheep, tho fat sheep pens at Stortford Lodge were fully utilised for the sale of fat sheep yesterday. This constitutes tho heaviest entry of fat sheep for 1933. Prices were well maintained compared with those of last week, and a bright tone prevailed. The quality of the entries was much on a par with last week, when some 4000 head of stock were penned, and the heavier entry seemed to have but little effect on the tone of the market. Export buying at rates which were evidently above tho ruling schedules was a feature of the sale as last week. The same degree of competition amongst

the export buyers was not so marked, one buyer securing the majority of tho offerings. Local competition was present, and generally the sale was on a par with last week, with perhaps a few lines selling at slightly improved rates. Compared with the sale of fat sheep at Waipukurau on Tuesday, the market was perhaps not so firm, but compared with previous sales at Hastings, prices were on a parity with late rates. Wether entries were prominent, and prices ranged from 10/6 to 12/1, the majority of the lines being prime lines. Ewes included some excellent sheep from tho Tod Estate, Otane, 13 prime ewes making 8/10, 30 realising 7/9. The range of prices was from 5/- to 8/10 for ewes, mixed sex 2-ths. making up to 10/-; 9/7 was the lowest price paid for lambs, the top price being 13/6.
