COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. BUSINESS OF THE MONTH. OFFICERS’ REPORTS. From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held yesterday, there being present Crs. L. Glenny (chairman), N. M. Paulsen, C. Thomsen, J. Butler, C. Bainbridge and B. Gray. It was decided to make representations to the executive of the Counties Association urging it to impress on the Highways Board the necessity of keeping up the maintenance allowance for roads, otherwise there was a grave danger of the roads going back. Mr L. W. Strang advised that where the court allowed costs in the collection of rates these were not charged against the council. The company controlling the petrol pumps at E. K. Richardson’s, Tikokino, is to be notified that the pumps must be dismantled if an insurance is not taken out. Tho Unemployment Board advised that the Easter days and Anzac Day would be observed as holidays by relief workers and paid accordingly. The Department of Health recommended the council to assume control of all iemeteries in its area, in respect to the appointment of trustees. —Approved. Prices are to be obtained for installing the electric light in a county house occupied by Mr W. Harwood. The chief surveyor asked to be supplied with a list of all owners of property in the county and the areas occupied by them, to assist in the reestablishing of the official maps of Hawke's Bay.—He is to be advised to apply to the Valuation Department. Tho Government statistician asked j for the county's assistance in revising I the population estimates for the year | ending March 31, 11133. The matter I was left in the hands of the clerk. Messrs. W. N. Waldin and A. R. Jensen notified the council to disconnect their telephones, fading a reduction being made in the charge. Hie quarterly levy, amounting to £490 3/10, is to be paid to the Hospital Board. Officers’ Reports. The health inspector reported that th» county bad been clear of infectious diseases during the quarter. Fifteen inspections had been made. The telephone linesman reported having overhauled several of the county | lines. The ranger reported having removed j 11 head of stock froni tho Waipawa j County roads and five from Patangata I roads. During the 11 months he had been in charge he had removed 847 I head of stock from the roads. 129 own- I era being involved. Six informations ' had been laid and a conviction obtained iu each ease. H« had covered 86-51 milts in the course of his work. —ft was decided to re-appoint Mr V. Patterson ua ranger for a period of 12 months. authorised. Tenders are to be called. Tenders were accepted as under for the following works: —Metalling Black’s road, E. 8. Port. 2/9 a yard: metalling Wakarara road, E. S. Port, 3/5. The pay-sheet amounting to £BOO 4/6 was adopted. NEWS ITEMS. Mrs Guy, of Palmerston North, who has been on an extended visit to Waipawa, returned home by the mail train ou Monday. On Sunday evening at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Mr F. Holt was ordained a “ruler elder” of the Presbvterian Church. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. F. W. Robertson before a very large congregation. Mr and Mrs Kelly, who have been residents of Waipawa for over 20 years, are leaving shortly to take up their abode in Auckland.
