AVIATION

ROBIANO’S PROGRESS 1200 MILES IN NINE HOURS. NOW EN ROUTE FOB JASK. LONDON, April 10. Covering the 1200 miles from Bari to Aleppo in nine hours, Captain Robiano left last night for Jask after staying two hours. To Australia in seven days and a record return journey is the aim of the youthful Italian airman, Captain Leonida Robbiano, who started on the Hight early in March, but was forced to return to Croydon. Captain Bobbi ano is making his attempt on the record because ho considers the Australian route and distance to be the most strenuous test for his plane, which he believes to be perfect. It is an Anglo-Italian combination, having a Breda body and a Gipsy HI engine. The airman is tall and dark, and is described as the most handsome officer in the Italian Air Force. He is one of the three best Italian aces, the others being Lombardi and Count Mazotti, with whom recently Robbiano was associated in long-distance flying. All are rich, and are devoting part of their wealth to the development of Italian aviation. Captain Robbiano *s destination is Darwin, but he is refuelling at Bari, Aleppo, Basra, Karachi, Calcutta, Victoria Point, Singapore and Bima. He will visit Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The record at present is held by Mr C. W. Scott, w'hose time in April, 1932, from England to Darwin was 8 days 20 hours 34 minutes.
