HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY WORK DONE DURING MONTH. REPORT BY ENGINEER. The following report on the work done on the various highways in the Hawke’s Bay County was submitted by the engineer (Mr. R. Puflett) to the Hawke's Bay County Council yesterday:— Napier-Tuki Tuki via Omahu (19 miles}. —Minor decking repairs were carried out to the Redcryffe bridge, and the approaches surfaced. Grading was done on the Redclyffe-Omahu section and scarifying carried out to remove pot-holes and corrugations. Further repairs were carried out to the Fernhill bridge which is again opened to traffic. Grading was done on the FernhillStortford Lodge section. Watertables and culverts were cleaned on the Have-loek-Tuki Tuki section and grading carried out. Taradale-Rissington (13 miles). — Grading was done on the TaradaleHakowhai section and watcrtables and culverts cleaned. General surface work was done on Apley road and watcrtables and culverts cleaued; grading was also carried out. The ApleyRissingtoii section was graded aud general surface work done. Farndou - Hastings (5 miles).—Repairs were carried out to the shoulders of the bitumen surface and grading done at the Karamu bridge approaches; general surface work was also carried out. Napier-Gisborne (16 miles). —Grading was carried out on the embankment aud further fencing repair work done. The Westshort-Pctane section was graded. Grading was done between Petane and the Esk river and watertables and culverts cleaned. The Esk river-lagoon section was graded and watcrtables cleaned. A 24in. concrete pipe culvert was put in at the AVhirinaki drain. General surface work was done on the lagoon-Te Ngaru section. Petane-Taupo (28 miles). —Watertables and culverts were cleaned on the Eskdale-Dillon's Hill section and grading carried out. Grading was done between Dillon’s Hill and Te Pohue. Watertables were cleaned and general surface work carried out. A 12in. concrete pipe culvert was put in where a scour occurred. The Te PohueTitiokura section was graded and culverts and watertables cleaned. Napier - Wellington miles). — Grading was carried out on the Farm don-Pakowhai section, and also between the Pakowhai bridge and the bitumen pavement. The AerodromeFaki Paki section was graded and general surface work done. Water tables and culverts were cleaned on the Paki Paki-Pukahu section and general surface work carried out. Decking repairs were carried out to the Waitangi bridge and also the Paki Paki township bridge. Tuki Tuki-Elsthorpe (15 miles).— Watertables and culverts were cleaned and general surface work carried out; grading was done and in places the surface was scarified to remove potholes and corrugations. Hastings-Maraekakaho (9 miles).— General surface work was carried out and w'atertables and culverts cleaned. Grading was done, and in places the surface was scarified to remove corrugations. Fernhill-Takapau (15 miles). —Grading was carried out and watertables and culverts cleaned. The two watercrossings were surfaced and largo stones removed from the stream bed. One 12in. diameter concrete pipe culvert was lengthened. Mangateretere • Havelock North (2 miles). —General surface work was carried out and culverts and watertables attended to. Hastings-Paki Paki (3J miles). —Reforming of portion of this highway was carried out with the aid of relief labour, approximately 140 chains being done to date. Metalling of the new formation is continuing in a satisfactory manner and about 562 cubic yards were delivered during the month. Mangateretere-Te Awanga (7i miles) —Heavy grading was carried out and verges cut back; general surface work was done. Watertables were cleaned and culverts attended to. Large stones were removed from the surface. Petane-Eskdale (2| miles). —Watertables and culverts were cleaned and general surface work done. Grading was also carried out and minor metal patching done where necessary. Tuki Tuki-Waimarama (12 miles).— Grading was done and general surface work carried out; watertables were cleaned and culverts attended to. Metal repairs were carried out where necessary.
