WOMEN’S LEAGUE

! WEEKLY SOCIAL AFTERNOON. HAPPY TIME SPENT. The Hastings Women’s League held their usual “Happy Afternoon” in the Trade Hall on Thursday, when there was a good attendance. Mrs I Bellcrby welcomed! the guests and apologised for the absence of some members. Mrs Goodall and the Misses Betsy, Josie, and Kitty Clancy gave re-' citations; Miss Betty Rigg, Miss Eleanor and Dick Goodall sang very sweetly, and Miss Kathleen Bellerby danced the Highland Fling. Mrs Jones read “Example and Testimony of Early Christians on the Subject of War.” Those present then sung “Solidarity For Ever; the Union Makes Us i Strong.” I A competition was then held, the j result being: Mrs Goodall 1, Mrs J. Henry 2, and Mesdamcs F. Walden and Clancy 3. Tire novel prizes created much interest and amusement, t The “Women’s Peace Army Song” was sung by all present, and after that afternoon tea was handed round. It was decided that two members be appointed to visit the sick each month, and a penny collection will be taken from now on to enable small luxuries to be taken to sick and poor members; the usual small donation to afternoon tea is asked for, The following reply was receiver* from the Minister of Health re dental clinics:—“l have to state that local dental clinic committees undertake ccrl tain financial obligations in connection with the operation of school dental ’• clinics, and to assist them to meet these they aie authorised to make a charge not exceeding five shillings per annum . for each child who is under treatment. • It is therefore competent for dental clinie committee to fix a final date for 0 payment of the annual fee, after which any children for whom the fee has not been paid become ineligible for further p treatmen . Provision is made, howo ever, for parents who desire to have their children treated, but are unable to pay the fee, to make application to ? the committee in writing, with a view to securing exemption from payment.” 1 t Next Thursday, at 2.30, another afternoon will be held at the Trades Hall.
