YOUTHS’ CLOSE CALL

YACHT CAPSIZES IN SQUALL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 12. A narrow escape from drowning was experienced by Jack Batts, aged 16, and Lindsay Miller, aged 17, residents of Remuera, when the 12ft 6in yacht lolanthe, owned by the former, capsized in a heavy squall off Devonport. The boys clung to the boat for half an hour before they were rescued by an unknown man, who put out in a dinghy from Devonport and took the boys to safety before the police launch arrived from the city. Neither boy was any the worse for the experience, and the yacht was recovered by a private launch. Batts and Miller were also in the lolanthe on Saturday afternoon when the vessel capsized during a race.
