BROOKFIELDS FLOODGATE
COUNTY WANTS DETAILS. DUBIOUS OF TUTAEKURI DIVERSION. Before the Hawke’s Bay County Council is prepared to contribute half the cost of a new floodgate at Brookfields, as requested by the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board, it will require a complete plan showing the proposed diversion of the Tutaekuri river. W’hen the Rivers Board’s request came before the County Council to-day Cr. T. Mason Chambers considered that the council should first be supplied (With a plan of the proposed diversion. At present the council did not know whether the river was to be taken out at the Washout or at Waitangi. “If it is taken to the Washout it is quite certain that it will soon go out at Waitangi,” added Cr. Chambers. Members agreed that the council desired to be definitely assured that any work to which it wa s asked to contribute would be of a permanent nature and. not likely to be abandoned shortly after completion.
