CRUMP SETS TWO NEW TIMES 100 YARDS IN 55 4-5 SECS. N.S.W. TEAM IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 12. The four New South Wales swimmers, Victor Bcsomo, Owen Griffiths, Frank Griffiths and Carl Phillips, competed at their first carnival in Auckland last evening. The New Zealand champions gained most success, having two wins and one dead-heat. New South Wales had one outright win only. Results: — 100 yards intermediate scratch race. —Noel Crump (Auckland) 1, Carl Phillips (New South Wales) 2, Walden Johnson (Auckland) 3. Crump, aged only 16, led all the way and won an exciting race by a yard., Time, 55 4-5 secs. This time bettered Crump’s Dominion intermediate record by 1 3-5 sec., and also equalled the senior record. 220 yards senior scratch race.—Victor Besomo (New South Wales) 1, R. Frankham (Auckland) 2, R. Thomas (Auckland) 3. Also started: 0. Griffiths (N.S.W.). Besomo took the lead from Frankham at 150 yards and won by three yards. Frankham beat Thomas by a foot. Time, 2min. 22 3-5 secs., 2-sscc. faster than Thomas’ listed record, but 2-ssec. slower than Frankham’s best time, now awaiting official recognition. 50 yards senior scratch race. —R. Frankham (Auckland) 1, O. Griffiths (New South Wales) 2, F. Griffiths and V. Besomo (New South Wales) (dead heat) 3. Won by a yard. Time, 25 2-ssccs.
