FISHERMEN’S TALES

TWO FROM HAUMOANA. STARTLING BUT TRUE. A Haumoana fisherman, while fishing off the Haumoana beach this week, had a unique experience. Being short of bait the fisherman decided to cast his herring line as well as bis schnapper line into the sea. Feeling a tug at his small lino he pulled in a nice schnapper. Having occasion to haul in his schnapper line be found that he had caught a herring—and was he pleased with himself! A visitor to Haumoana decided to try his luck at “off the beach” fishing. Purchasing a line he fixed it up as he thought best, tying a stone on the end for a sinker. (He certainly was a novice at the game). He managed to throw the line about 40 yards into the surf and within half an hour had caught three schnapper and three gurnet.

This is no “fish story’’ either and the local fisherman sre quite worried about it.
