HAVELOCK NORTH

NEWS AND NOTES. TO-MORROW’S CRICKET. The following team will represent Havelock North against H. 5.0.8. at 2 p.m. to-morrow:—J. Bee, D. Fickling, C. Liiey, 8. Dixon, S. Liley, L. Scott Kelly, G. Rogers, J. Scott., Al. Mitchell, P. Huff, N. Liley, J. Cornwall. ORCHARDIBTS’ BUSY TIME. Orchardists throughout the district are experiencing a very busy time at present in picking and packing, and crops have, in a lot of cases, been so prolific that it has been necessary to work extra time in the evenings to keep pace with the pickers, and also to ensure the completion of export packing before the required time. There are quite a few sheds where packing operations are proceeding up to as late as 9 and 10 o’clock each night. HODGE CUP TENNIS. Members of the Havelock North Tennis Club who have not yet participated in any games iu the Hodge Cup competition should make a point of being present at the courts to-morrow if they wish to figure in the competition at all. The season is fast drawing to a closo and it is very doubtful if it will be possible for the full number of games to be played by each team. Every endeavour should be made not only to start these games early but to keep each court occupied in a competition game. The competition is already creating considerable interest and enthusiasm and it should prove very keen as further games are played off. EASTER SATURDAY SPORTS. Arrangements are well in train for the Easter sports meeting to be held by the Havelock North Amateur Athletic Club and the indications are that the meeting will be attended with the same success as those in previous years. This event has always been one of the biggest attractions during the Easter vacation and is always largely attended. AN UNFORTUNATE EYESORE. The handsome new bridge on the Havelock road, with its ornamental electric light standards, gives a very striking effect to the village approach and this is added to by the avenue of trees leading right up to the village. The whole effect is very pleasing indeed, especially with the hills nestling in the background, but as soon as one is almost to the square their vision is blotted by the ugly paddock, containing stacks of earthquake bricks and other debris. It is an unfortunate eyesore and rather tends to spoil the appearance of Havelock’s picturesque square. TOWN BOARD MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Havelock North Town Board will be held this evening.
