WAIPUKURAU

NEWS AND NOTES

(Special Representative.) ' On Tuesday a most enjoyable day was spent on the Waipukurau Croquet Club lawns, when a B team from Waipawa played a return match with a Waipukurau B team, the local players being tho winners by 48 points to 40. The visitors were entertained at luncheon and afternoon tea by the Waipukurau Club members. Following is the result of the day’s play, Waipukurau mimes being mentioned first:—Mcsdames F. Staines and H. Reckin beat Mesdamcs Grenside and Fox, 19—18; Mcsdames G. Bryce and H. M. Keir lost to Mesdamcs Clark and Fleming. 8—17; Mcsdames F. Staines and H. Reekin beat Mesdamcs Clark and Fleming. 14 —13; Mcsdames G. Bryce and H. M. Keir beat Mesdames Grenside and Fox. 2(1—11). Mrs J. G. Clarkson has left for Oamaru to visit relatives. Mr and Mrs J. D. Ormond and Miss J. Ormond are motoring to Wellington to-day to farewell Miss Kit Ormond, who is leaving by the Rotorua to-mor-row for England. Miss Ryburn, Bay of Plenty, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs J. HuntleyWalker.

The matron of the Sanatorium wishes to thank the following donors of gifts: —Wainukurau Red Cross, daily papers, case pears and apples; Hatuma Women’s Institute, Gardening Circle, flowers; Otane Red Cross, ease plums, gems, buns, sponges, fruit cakes, bis cuits, books, magazines, flowers, jam. tinned fruit, tomatoes and savoury eggs; Mr A. Moore (Pukehou), mage zines, case pears and greengages,. five cases plums and two cases nectarines: Mrs Loire, one ease of peaches, plums, apples and pears; Mrs T. Warren (Pukehou), books and magazines; Mrs Lowry, four cases of nectarines; Miss Hunter, cakes, buns, tomatoes; Mr Ormond, “Referee”; anonymous, magazines and books.
