CROQUET TOURNAMENT

HAWKE’S BAY ASSOCIATION FINALS IN TWO SECTIONS. The Hawke’s Bay Croquet Association’s annual tournament was continued in Napier yesterday afternoon in fine weather. The final stages were reached in two sections, the open doubles and the handicap doubles. The former section was won by Mesdames Tiffen and Watkins, and the latter by Mesdames Esson and Tomlinson. Following are the results of the day’s play:— Handicap singles (A grade).—Semifinal: Mrs. Freedman (4) beat Mrs. Wood (3), 26—22. Ladies’ singles.— First life: Mrs Pearce beat Mrs Langford, 26—23; Mrs Hutchinson beat Miss Carrington, 26— 13. Second life: Mrs. Freedman beat Mrs Chetwin, 26—15; Mrs Wood beat Mrs Ball, 26—8. Open doubles.— Final: Mesdames Tiffen and Watkins beat Mesdames Piteaithly and Mr Stratton, 26—18. Handicap doubles.— Final: Mesdames Esson and Tomlinson (11) beat Mesdames Walker and Arkens (10J), 26—17.
