Acceptances for the opening day of the Wellington Autumn Meeting, to be held on Friday and Saturday, 17th and 18th inst., must be in by 8 p.m. on Friday next. 10th inst.

The following scratchings have been posted for the first day of the Waikato Racing Club’s meeting which opens tomorrow : —Te Rapa Handicap: Chock Say, Royal Artist. Flying Handicap: Foreign Queen, The Tiger.

The following riding engagements have been announced for the first day of the fixture:—S. J. Cammick: The Pullet; H. N. Wiggins: Lord Vai, Trishna; L. Dulieu: Gay Cavalier, King’s Archer, Motens; T. Chaplin: Marchette, Prince of Orange; E. Garrett; Wee Prince.

Auckland reports state that the hurdler Prince of Orange has been working along steadily at Ellerslie and is in good heart to compete at Te Rapa on Thursday, when he will have a change from hurdling and will be given another chance on the flat. Apparently it is intended to give him a little break from jumping, as he is also engaged in the high-woight handicaps at Trentham next week.

According to a London message of 27th February appearing in Sydney exchanges just to hand, following was the order of preference at the first call over of candidates in the Grand National Steeplechase, to be run at Aintree, Liverpool, on March 24: — Golden Miller. Gregalach. Heartbreak Hill, Kelsboro’ Jack.

Coolinolagh Remus, Pelorus Jack Bullasport. Destiny Bay, Lone Eagle. Forbra.
