CHAMPION PAIRS COMPETITION THE CONCLUDING ROUNDS. TWO TEAMS WITH 6 WINS. The East Coast champion pairs contest was played on the Hastings Bowling Club’s green on Saturday in beautiful weather, the green being in excellent c indition. At the end of the day’s play it was found that Bendall (Napier) and Esson (Hastings) had tied with six wins and two losses each. They were to meet in the final game of 21 heads on the Hastings green at 3 p.m. to-day. Details of Saturday afternoon’s play are as under:— SEVENTH ROUND Esson 18, Bendall 15. Graham 24, Venables 13. McLennan 21, Crombie 14. McCarthy 22, Brown 17. Kelly beat Waipawa by default. EIGHTH ROUND Bendall 23, McCarthy 10. Esson 19, Kelly fl. Graham 19, Crombie 5. McLennan 17, Brown 11. Venables beat Waipawa by default.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SINGLES. The annual champion of champions singles contest will be played on the Port Ahuriri Bowling Club’s greens on Friday and Saturday next. The name of the ■winner will be inscribed on the handsome silver cup presented by the Messrs Smith brothers, and the winner will receive a miniature cup with a framed certificate to his club. The runner-up will receive a framed certificate. The draw will be published later.

ORDINARY GAMES PLAY ON VARIOUS GREENS THE PORT AHURIRI CLUB Owing to the fact that the Napier [ green was occupied by the croquet ; tournament, five rinks from the Napier club paid a visit to the Port club’s green on Saturday. The weather was cool and the green slightly on the heavy side. Nevertheless, the play was gener ally of a high order. The game between the Park Island teams, skipped by J. P Smith and J. P. Williamson, produced some very good bowling. Following are the scores of the games played:— Osler, Northcoft, Steel, J. P. Smith (Port) 28; Goodger, Sands, Steed, J. P. Williamson (Napier) 21. Courtney, Mackay, Logan. Boyd (Port) 16; Napier, Ennis, Dunsford, Newton Bluff Hill) 20. Crawford, Ruffell, Mayo 17; Clegg, Pool, McArthur 20. THE BLUFF HILL CLUB. RINKS FROM ST. LEONARDS. On Saturday afternoon four rinks from St. Leonards played a friendly game at Bluff Hill. St. Leonards was successful in winning every game, the score being 88 —70. Nevertheless, the games were all well fought, two being won on the last head. The green was in good order, but not fast, and the weather was fine. At the close of play the vice-president, Mr M. S. Spence, apologised for the absence of the president, who was playing in the champion pairs, and congratulated the visitors on their win and thanked them for the enjoyable games which had been played in a very friendly spirit. He trusted the clubs would meet again before very long. Mr. Carrell apologised for the absence of the St. Leonards president and returned thanks for the enjoyable afternoon. McLennan will represent the club. Last Thursdav a team comprising Stewart, Christie, N. G. Russell and J. W. H. Wood (s) was successful in winning the veterans' match, beating the holders (Hastings) hy 22—13. Next Saturday it is understood the president of the Centro will present the

District Shield to the winners, Hastings Club, and a team from Bluff Hill, last season’s holders, will be present. A Civil Service match between Hastings and Napier will be played at Hastings next Saturday and it is hoped to have four rinks playing. The competition has been reorganised this year and a handsome shield will now be competed for. All members are urged to attend. Napier players will leave by the 1.30 p.m. bus. THE KIA TOA CLUB. TEAMS FROM ST. LEONARDS. Three teams from St. Leonards visited Kia Toa on Thursday last and although the green was very heavy after rain, the games were very much enjoyed.
