FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE
FURTHER EFFORTS PROBABLE Wellington, Nov. 1. Although a conference lasting several hours was held in Wellington yesterday between representatives of employers and employees in the freez'ng workers’ dispute no settlement was reached. It is understood that although no move has so far been made another attempt to bring the parties together will be made shortly. It was recently suggested to the Hon. A. Hamilton from an outside source that he should endeavour to bring both sides together at a more or less informal conference to discuss the whole question and attempt to reach a settlement. The Minister arranged for holding a conference and representatives of both rides oame to Wellington yesterday from all over New Zealand. Both rides met without prejudice to the eases of either party, and although the points at issue were gone into very carefully it was found impossible to reach a basis of settlement. It is understood the failure to reach an agreement at present will not prevent further discussion, as the feeling on both sides is stated to be good. Both the employers’ and the workers' representatives remained in Wellington last night.
