POLICE BATONS DRAWN DEMONSTRATING MOB DISPERSED. PROTEST AGAINST DOLE QUESTIONNAIRE. (United Press association—By Cable* Copyright.) (Received 28, 11.40 a.m.) Sydney, Oct. 28. Without preliminary warning, a squad of about 5o police with batons drawn charged a crowd of 500 outside the Glebe Town Hall last night and in five minutes broke up a meeting called aa a protest against the dole questionnaire. A number of men were felled with batons and fists. Five men and two women were arrested and three were sent to hospital. Before the charge by the police several constables on duty at the meeting were attacked by the mob and struck with fists. THE INTERNAL LOAN. (Received 28, 10.30 a.m.) Sydney, Oct. 28. The “Sydney Morning Herald’s” Melbourne correspondent says that the Premiers’ conference declared itself in favour of an immediate internal loan of £8,000,000, the issue to be at par and bearing rate of interest at £3 15/per cent, and with a currency of 10 years. A deadlock was reached when the Commonwealth Bank intimated that it would not underwrite the loan at less than 4 per cent. Ultimately the conference suggested that Sir Robert Gibson should convene a conference of trading banks in Victoria and New South Wales to review the whole problem. Sir Robert Gibson informed the conference that he was prepared to do that. LONE TRAMPER. (Received 28, 1.45 p.m.) Melbourne, Oct. 28. Eric Malpass, who is tramping the world and earning a living by singing, arrived here. He left Dover with a few shillings in his pocket and is going home via Europe, Asia, Japan and America. He says he was never destitute during his four months in England.
