INJURED BY EARTH FALL

YOUNG MAN BADLY CRUSHED. NOW IN NAPIER HOSPITAL. A broken thigh and many painful abrasions were received by a contractor named Mr L. H. Andrews when the sides of a pit fell in on him near Kotemaori on Monday last. The injured man was admitted to the Napier Hospital, and his condition is reported to be serious. It is stated that Mr Andrews was engaged at Kotemaori in shovelling earth in connection with a contract in which he and others were engaged, when a large quantity of earth and boulders fell on him, forcing him into the pH and almost complete-

1V covering Um. His companions immediately set to work to dig him out, and when he was extricated his injuries appeared to bo very severe. A telephone message was sent to Napier for the ambulance, but in the meantime his mates put him on a lorry and despatch him to the Napier Hospital. Half-way to towp the lorry was met by the ambulance, and the injured man was transferred to that vehicle, so that the remainder of the journey was completed with less discomfort than the first part. ft was fortunate that assistance was sn promptly rendered, as the injured man's bruises are of a rather severe character and he is also suffering from shock. Mr Andrews is a young man who came to Hawke’s Bay with his parents a short limo ago from Whangarel.
