CARNIVAL PROJECT
PROPOSAL TAKING SHAPE
BUSINESS MEN’S UNANIMITY.
SUB COMMITTEES SET UP.
The proposal to hold a carnival in Hastings between November 29 and December 3 is now taking definite shape, and the first stage towards the committee’s objective was reached last evening, when sub-committees to deal with various sectional organisations were appointed. The meeting at which the proposal was first adopted was characterised by extraordinary and unanimous enthusiasm, and that spirit has increased rather than diminished. The whole of the business community of the town, together with those public institutions that have so far been approached, have already clearly shown that they intend to give their most wholehearted support to the carnival project, and it cannot be doubted that success is fully assured. It remains, Of course, to the public to join in not only in the spirit of the coming occasion, but in giving whatever support may be asked of them, and it is certain also that that support will not be lacking. At last evening’s meeting of the Caraivsrt Executive there was a full attendance, and Mr H. Holderness was in the chair, the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roach) being absent at another meeting. One of the principal items of business was the appointment of a secretary-organ-iser, and Mr F. S. Budd was selected, with Mr J. Le Comte as assistant secretary. It was decided to hold the carnival from Tuesday evening, November 29, and to continue it till the night of Friday, December 2, with a probable ses•ion for children on the Saturday.
The committees named below were appointed with power to add to their membership, and anyone who is anxious to assist will be most cordially welcomed, and should send his or her name to Mr Budd as early as possible. An office for the Carnival organisation has been made available in the “Tribune” office, and is situated up•tairs.
The Mayor is inviting support from women’s organisations, and already has been promised a most pleasing amount of support. It will be recognised that it is impossble to interview all organisations and their leaders personally, end those who may care to assist are requested to notify His Worship.
