ANTI-JAPANESE BOYCOTT ACTIVITIES INTENSIFIED. CAMPAIGN OF BOMB-THROWING. (United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 1, 10.55 a.m.) Shanghai, Aug. 31. Tho intensification of anti-Japanese boycott activities, inchiding a campaign of bomb-throwing, is creating 'apprehension. Two Japanese cruisers and lour destroyers arrived this morning, but failed to allay anxiety. The commander Of the Japanese naval lauding party submitted a strong protest to the Mayor, Mr Wu Teh-clieu, against the propaganda carried on in the Chinese press and demanded that it be discontinued. He added that unless a favourable reply was received a formal demand for the closure of the offending newspaper offices would be submitted. In the meantime, China is pinning her faith to the report of the Lytton Commission, which held its last meeting at Keiping, prior to proceeding to Geneva.
lhe general indications from Japan are thus the Commission can only report a fait accompli in Manchuria.
