MIRACULOUS ESCAPE

CAR TURNS OVER TWICE. FOUR MEN SLIGHTLY INJURED. Four men had a fortunate escape from serious injur • when a sedan oar in which they were proceeding from Napier towards Hastings today turned over twice, coming to rest on its hood and facing the direction from which it had come. The mishap, which took place just outside the Napier boundary, was due to the left rear tyre blowing out. The four occupants, whose names were not ascertainable, escaped with nothing more serious than cuts and abrasions on the face and hands. The car, following the blowout, slewed over to the grass skirting the road, and then swerved in zig-zag fashion, finally capsizing and rolling over to rest upside down about the centre of the road. The good fortune of the occupants can more readily be understood when it is considered that when the ear came finally to rest its weight was lying partly across the chest of one of the men who was quickly extricated by people who rushed to the scene after hearing the crash. The men’s injuries were attended to on the spot, after which they were taken to Napier. The car was fairly extensively damaged, the hood being badly ripped, the glass door panels smashed, and the mudguards badly dented.
