At Rye in the quarter-finals Elbert Lewis (Los Angeles) defeated Coen 6—4. 6—4; Clifford Sutter (New Orleans) defeated Olliff 6—3, 2—6, 6—2. Austin defeated Eugene McCauliff (Yonkers, New York); Mangin defeated Manuel Alonzo (New York). AUSTRALIANS IN GERMANY. (Received 13, 9.56 a.m.) Hamburg) Aug. 12. In the semi-final of the German tennis championships Menzel defeated Crawford 6—4, 6—4, 6—4. The other Australians, Hopman, Sproule and Clemenger, were eliminated in earlier rounds. In the semi-final Cramm defeated Boussus 7—6, 6 —2, 6—3.
