SUCCESSFUL BALL

H.B. HOOKEY ASSOCIATION. Last evening was a scene of brilliance, colour and gaiety when the H.B Hockey Association held its annual baM in the Assembly Hall. A most enjoyable time was spent by all, excellent tnuSio being supplied by Les. Henry’s orchestra. All credit is due to the members of the committee—Messrs H. Poppelwell (president), E. Fitzmaurice (hon. secretary), Le Compte, Surgenor, Dorse, Nikera, Tutaki and Mahoneywho were responsible for making the dance such a success. The beautiful decorations consisted of gigantic Chinese lanterns and streamers, which hung from the celling carried out in all the different clubs’ colours. The stage was most artistically decorated with hothouse plants and palms kindly lent by Walker’s Nursery, interspersed with beautiful cinerarias and rhododendrons.

The ladies responsible for the delicious supper were Mesdames Mardon, McMahon, Wall and McKeegan. The tables were beautifully decorated with bpwls of yellow jonquils and wattle. During the evening Mr H. Poppelwelll, when making a bright little speech, Congratulated Miss 1. Cameron, the United queen, on being the winning candidate, and then presented her with an early Victorian posy and u gold wristlet watch. She wore a beautiful cream satin frock, close fitting bodice, with full flared skirt fitted to hip panel, ahd a coatee of blue velvet trimmed with white -fur, blue shoes, and a necklace of blue crystal. Her three maids of honour, who were also the recipients of posies, were little Kathleen Smith (Napier queen) looking sweet in a dainty little gold organdie frock; Miss B. McKeegan (Karon queen), who was becomingly attired in a pink model georgette frock with V back and finished at the waist with a large bow; and Miss B. Brittain (Diamond H queen), who looked picturesque in a frock of pink floral taffetas, black velvet coatee and blue footwear. Also present were: Miss O. Blackert wearing gold fame with brilliant buckle at back; Miss M. McDonald (Napier), green lace frock, and a green coatee to match trimmed with black fur; Miss T Morley, apricot satin with long bodice fully flared skirt; Miss K. Kerchar. black chenille velvet; Miss E. Douglas, black satin; Miss Wall, green broche satin; Mrs L. Cameron, pretty pink net frock. Misses: 1. McErick, black satin trimmed with green; J. Smith, pink panne velvet; 1 Ware, salmon pink georgette and lemon coatee; M. Young, almond green velvet trimmed with lemon shoulder spray and lemon coatee, K. Baine, flowered pink Satin beaute and black and gold coatee; E. Wright, scarlet silk net frock and lace; E. Wilson, black satin; M. Ward, smart red frock and black velvet coatee; O. Atkins, red chenille velvet trimmed with bustle bow at back; R. Ogilvie, pale pihk georgette flared skirt and diamante buckle at waist; K. Lawry. sky blue satin; M. Struthers, salmon pink georgette and cream lace coatee ; L. Ladbrook. smart model frock of black velvet trimmed with diamante shoulder straps and coatee lined with white satin; Miss Matthews, rose pink satin; M. Brimmer, scarlet satin, flared skirt and shoes to tone; J. Rees, stylish pink georgette frock, V back, diamante shoulder straps, and pale blue wrap; he-: f'ster wore almond green georgette and lace and a pink panne velvet coatee.
