TWYFORD TOPICS

(Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Twyford School Committee took place last Tuesday, Messrs A. Johnson (chairman), T. Mitchell (hon. secretary and treasurer), A. J. Masters, J. R. In conjunction with these parties, it is intended to provide music lor a dance so that the tastes of all will be catered for. The headmaster (Mr C. Arthur) stated that as the calf-rearing competition had proved so popular last year, he proposed organising another for this year. With a few minor alterations it was decided to run the competition again on similar lines. The attendance report was highly satisfactory fox- this time of the year when colds are so prevalent. The meeting set down for last Tuesday to see if it were feasible to start a Gun Club did not eventuate; it is on the cards, however, that something in this direction may yet be done. The first of the school “doo’’ tournaments last Thursday was an outstanding success. Though there were not so many present as usually is the case, everyone voted it a very enjoyable turn-out. Miss Ivy Burge won the ladies’ prize, Messrs L. Masters and D. McNab tying for the men’s prize. In the play-off which followed Mr McNab proved the conqueror. The two ‘‘other’’ prizes were secured by Miss Jean Masters and Mr Harley Lowe. The music for the dancing was provided by Mr Buckley. The supper arrangements were most admirably car ried out by the ladies. The date of the next tournament will be announced later. The church services held by the Rev. This month's meeting was held in the school on Saturday afternoon, Mrs Hanson via siding over a good attenda e. The Inst Lute song, as usual, was the opening number. One new member was enrolled, and a vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Masters.

The president then presented Miss Lowe, on behalf of the Institute, with

a beautiful tea-set as a wedding gift. Miss Lowe suitably returned thanks.

Miss Stollery was the speaker for the afternoon, and she gave a wonderfully interesting lecture on the fife of J. N. Barrie, followed by her reading of his play “The Old Lady Gets Her Medals.” Mrs Shaw thanked Miss Stollery and said how much all present had enjoyed her talk.

Miss Agnew gave two very pleasing recitations. The competition for an infant’s knitted vest was judged by Mrs Mitchell, who presented the first prize to Miss Craven, with Mrs Ballard second. In the beginners’ class Mrs Nicoll was first and Mrs McLeod second. AH the entries in these classes are being sent in to the Plunket nurse. Mrs Arthur was the hostess,.
