BOWLING
McLEAY VETERAN BUTTONS. WAIREKE RETAINS TROPHY. On the Wairere Bowling Club’s green yesterday afternoon both the MeLeay veterans’ buttons and the soft goods cup were contested by rinks from the Kia Toa, Hastings and Napier clubs respectively. At the tea adjournment the president, Mr T. Rowe, congratulated the winners of the Easter tournament on their magnificent and well deserved result, for which the club felt highly honoured. The veterans’ buttons have been held by Wairere since January 29 of last year, and have been successfully defended on six occasions during the season. The soft goods cup is an annual competition, and with the exception of one season, has been retained by Wairere since 1922. The following are the results of the games:—

McNiven, Williamson, Faulkner, Wardell-Johnson (s) 7. Ordinary Games: Smith, Cottrell* Sinclair, Forsyth 27; v. Lane, Mead, Saunders, Corbridge 10. Smale, Kennedy, Parsons (s) 17; v, P.ayl’ffe, F. Ayling, Allan (s) 21. Elliott, Russell, McGregor 18; v. Gentles, Sheppard, Spaekman 21. SYDNEY TOURNEY. RESULTS OF THE FINALS. Sydney, March 31. tn the final of the bridge bowls singles, Kerrs (Waverley) defeated Harrison (North Sydney), 32 to 29. In the play off for third and fourth places Eagleton (New Zealand) defeated Neil (Armidale), 31 to 22. North Sydney won the rink tournament, the quartet winning 14 successive matches.
