SHIPPING FARES

CONFERENCE AT BRUSSELS NO DECISION BEACHED TWO COMPANIES BREAK AWAY (United Press Assoofatlon~Bi Ca'uleCopyright.) (Received 1, 10.30 a.m.) Brussels, Mar. 31. The North Atlantic Shipping Conference adjourned without coming to a decision. In the meantime the United States and White Star lines have already announced 15 to 20 per cent, reductions. The North Atlantic shipping conference at Brussels discussed the proposal of a 20 per cent, reduction in fares, regarding which there was wide divergence of opinion. If the rival groups are unable to compromise it was thought that a section would probably break away from the conference and announce reduced fares, thus precipitating a crisis in the conference, which has controlled North Atlantic traffic for 20 years. CUNARD LINE FOLLOWS SUIT. (Received 1, 10.30 a.m.) London, Mar. 31. The Cunard Co. announces a reduction similar to the White Star’s. The Brussels conference will consider reductions of sailings later. REDUCTIONS IN ALL CLASSES. (Received 1, 1.30 p.m.) Bruss e ls, Mar. 31. Reductions in all classes of Atlantic steamship fares are now in operation. The French and German lines strongly opposed the cuts, but unanimous acceptance became a necessity in view of the United States and White Star Lines’ announcement of immediate reductions.
