An elderly golfer and his caddie were killed by lightning during a sudden thunderstorm which broke over the Maidenhead golf course this afternoon. The golfer’s opponent was also struck and was removed to hospital suffering from partial paralysis. ANOTHER ACCOUNT. (Received 31, 12.30 p.m.) London, March 30. A retired business man named Kelly, aged 70, was golfing at Maidenhead with a fifteen-years-old caddie, a widow’s only son. They were approaching the seventeenth green when a sudden brief thunderstorm broke out. Both hurriedly sheltered under Kelly’s umbrella and both were killed instantly by lightning, which badly burned and mutilated the bodies, which were found near the green with the clothing ripped to shreds. Kelly’s beard was singed off. Another player partnering Kelly was struck by the same lightning and managed to stagger to the clubhouse dazed and with burned arms and legs. His injuries are not critical.
