STEAMER FARES
PROPOSED 20 PER CENT. REDUCTION. NORTH ATLANTIC TRAFFIC. (Unite* Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 31, 10.55 a.m.) London, March 30. The North Atlantic shipping conference meets at Brussels to-day to discus* the proposal of a 20 per cent, reduction in fares, regarding which there is wide divergence of opinion. If the rival groups are unable to compromise one section will probably break away from the conference and announce reduced fares, thus precipitating a crisis in the conference, which ha« controlled North Atlantic traffic for 20 years. NO REDUCTION IN AUSTRALIAN FARES. (Received 30, 10.45 ajn.) London, March 30. It is understood that the shipping companies are not considering any reduction in the Australian passenger fares, which are already lower than the Atlantic conference’s proposal.
