TOTALISATOR IMPROVEMENT SQUATTER WINS THE STEEPLES. Invercargill, March 29. The Riverton meeting was concluded to-day in glorious weather. There was again a good attendance, The track was in great order The totalisator handled £11,158, against £11,055 last year. The total for the meeting was £37,834 10/-, against £40,628 10/- last year. Late results: — Fairfax Handicap.— 2 First Song (Mitchell) 1, 4 Steeton (Doyer) 2, 3 Toreador (Barclay) 3. Also ran: 1 Paki tere, 4 Thornton (coupled with Steet, on), 7 Jack A’ Dandy, 5 Young Sentinel, 9 Miss Redowa, 10 Sailing Home, 8 Traylavah, 6 Brown Pearl, 11 Miss Winston. Won by noses. Sailing Home was fourth. Time, 1.28 1-5. Steeplechase.—l Squatter (Langford) 1,2 Nylotis (Beale) 2, 8 Matu (Hunt) 3. Also ran: 5 Taramoa (fell), 3 Heather Lad (pulled up), 4 Calham (fell) and French Fleet (coupled), 8 Silvern, 7 Balvasco. Won by three lengths, third back four lengths. French Fleet was fourth. Time, 5.22 2-5. Ohai Trot.—l Mocast (Todd) 1, 1 Rollicking Wave (Mitchell) 2, 7 Senorita (Cameron) 3. Won by half a length, third back two and a half lengths. Bright Sun was fourth. Time 2.56 2-5.
