2ZI HASTINGS
RECEPTION IN U.S.A. TWO APPRECIATIVE LISTENERS. Two interesting letters have been received by station 2ZI, Hastings, owned by Sutcliffe’s Ltd., which go to show the popularity and efficiency of some of our B stations. One is from Mr. Frank A. Johnson, Chicago, U.S.A., president of the Transoceanic All-Wave D.X. Club, who distinctly heard 2ZI, and the announcer signing off. Chicago is about 8500 miles from Hastings. This listener is evidently also a very keen short-wave enthusiast, having 1345 stations to his credit as per his log, and ho speaks in glowing terms of the programmes of the New Zealand stations.
The other letter is from Mr. R. Rawstron, Now Hampshire, U.S.A., who, with evident pride in his native town, sends greetings and best wishes from New Hampshire, “the Switzerland of America. ’ ’ He also reports hearing 2ZI steadily and clearly on a frequency of 1130 k.c. on Tuesday mornings about. 4.50 a.m., corresponding with 9.55 p.m. New Zealand time. Some of these DX listeners must be very keen indeed, and their motto apparently is, “We never sleep.” It must be very gratifying to station 2ZI, Hastings, to receive these splendid reports from listeners so far distant and proves the progress and popularity of the B class stations.
