£28,026 RATES AND TAXES
BIC INCREASE SINCE 1930 WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 9. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company to-day the chairman (Sir Harold Beauchamp), in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, pointed out that the amount provided this, year, £28,026. for rates and taxes, including income tax, showed an increase of £9716 over the year 1930. In other words the total cost to the company for rates and taxes amounts to 10.3 pence per thousand cubic feet of gas sold and was £1493 greater than the dividends paid to shareholders At the conclusion of the discussion a resolution was passed urging the Government to place municipalities and power boards supplying gas and electricity for light, heating and power purposes upoh the same footing as regards taxation as gas companies.
