OBITUARY

MR. CHAS. HEAD. The passing of yet another old resident of Napier took place last evening (Sunday) at his residence, No. 9 Goldsmith road. We refer to the late Mi.. Chas. Head, who was well-known and very highly respected by a large circle of friends. His passing is deeply regretted, and much sympathy will be extended to his widow and family. Tho late Mr. Head was a man who had many interesting experiences in his early life, and who loved his home and family circle. He was endowed with a bright and cheery nature, and enjoyed good health up to the closing weeks of his life’s span. These last few weeks saw him stricken with a serious illness, which he bore with great fortitude. The late Mr. Head arrived in Napier with his esteemed wife and their young family just on fifty years ago from Timaru. Before coming to Napier he was in the employ of the Timaru Harbour Board, which position he relinquished to come to Napier, Some 35 years ago he entered the employ of the Napier Harbour Board, which position he held for close on 30 years, retiring on superannuation. He was an active member of the Druids Lodge for over 40 years in Napier, and his place will be greatly missed in that Order In the early years of his life and before coming to Now Zealand, he was apprenticed before tho mast, and many interesting experiences he could relate. On relinquishing tho sea ho settled at Timaru. In his single days he had experience of life in Central Otago, and conditions there then were more or less in the pioneering stage. Going back to Timaru he settled down and married. . Ho later joined up with a company of naval volunteers that was then in existence In that town. Many of that old company who may bo still alive will recall his activities. He leaves behind to mourn their loss u much respected wife and mother, and a large gamily of sons and daughters, to whom much sympathy will be extended. Most of the family are still residents of tho district, while other members reside in North Auckland, Wellington, and the South Island. Local sons are Mr. David Head, and Mr. Harold Head, of Port Ahuriri, Mr. Gilbert Head, postmaster at Havelock, Mrs, B. M .Kesscll, of Hastings, Miss P. Head, of Napier. Mr. Stove Head and Mrs. C. Hertzel, of Wellington, Mr. Sydney Head and Mr. Chris. Head, of Waikouaiti, Otago.
