CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNEY. Auckland, Jan. 26. Further tennis results are as follows :— (Earlier details will be found on first cable page.) MEN’S SINGLES. Angas (Canterbury) beat Sturt (Auckland) 7 —5, 6 —3, 6—l. WOMEN’S SINGLES. Second Round. Mrs Nicholls (Wellington) beat Miss Johnston (Canterbury) 6—4, 6—o; Miss Hartigan (N.S.W.) beat Mrs Melody (Wellington) 6 —o, 5 —7, 6 —3; Mrs France (Wellington) beat Miss’ Marjorie MacFarlane (Auckland) 6 —l. 7—6; Miss Knight (Auckland) beat Miss Newton (Auckland) 6—3, 3—6, 6—4. Two “seeded” players met in Sturt and Angas. Sturt was brilliant in the first set, but Angas was more accurate. Tn the next two sets he forced the pace and, going to the net on the right ball, won manv points bv perfect kills. There was no doubt about his superiority in the third set. Miss MacFarlane, whose defeat caused some surprise, appeared to bo off her game, but in the long, baseline duel Mrs France was always steady.
Miss Hartigan was extended to beat Mrs Melody.
