FARMERS' UNION
H.B. PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. RESOLUTIONS PASSED. At a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held at Waipukurau yesterday, and presided over by the president, Mr R. E. Talbot, the following resolutions were unanimously carried: — Moved by Mr L. M. Monckton and seconded by the president: “That the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union having discussed the matter of ‘Pegging the Exchange’ is convinced it is against the interests of farmers, and supports Messrs Polson, Hunt, Acland, I). Jones and Irons in their fight with the Government in getting a free exchange.” Moved by Mr W. J. Kirkham and seconded by Mr D. Isdale: “That this meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union views with strong disapproval the action of certain retailers of Napier, Hastings, Waipawa and Waipukurau, in specialising in the sale of outside dairy produce, particularly butter, resulting in money leaving or own district thereby creating further local unemployment and crushing the local producer who has experienced in addition to low prices two disastrous drought years as well as earthquake losses, and that a committee be set up to give the matter further consideration and devise means of urging upon the primary producers the vital importance of supporting those shopkeepers specialising in local produce, and report to the next meeting.” The committee appointed comprise the following members: —The president and Messrs D. J. Boyle, W. J. Kirkham and J. A. Kerr,
