COMBINED PICNIC
SHOP BUTCHERS AND FREEZING WORKERS. GREAT DAY AT WAIPAWA. The shop butchers’ assistants of Hastings and Napier and the combined freezing works employees held their annual picnic yesterday (Monday) at Coronation Park, Waipawa (by kind per. mission of the Waipawa Borough Council), and it proved another great success. The special train of 18 coaches was just about full, there being about 800 men, women and children aboard. The crowd that travelled by road was bigger than ever, and well over 12b people were on the ground The committee, which worked hard to make the picnic a success, were well rewardei for their work. In a few pleasing remarks, the Mayor of Waipawa (Mr Hunt) thanked the Hastings and Napier people and the committee for deciding to hold their picnic in the town, and congratulated the committee on the way they had handled the great crowd. Old buffers' race, 75yds: J. Hanley 1, T. Dobson 2. Relay race, 440yds: J. Stenson’s team. Married ladies’ race, under 35, 75yds: Mrs Richardson 1, Mrs Birks and Mrs Newton (tie) 2. Married ladies, over 35, 75yds: Mrs Thomson 1. ,Mrs 11. Codlin 2. Shop butchers, 100yds: Al. Hope 1, F. Laredo 2, J. Hay 3. Married couple, 75yds: Mr and Mrs Taylor 1, Air and Mrs C. Bezley 2.
