It may not be generally known that already a contribution towards the community gardening schemes of unemployed relief exists in Waipukurau, several local sympathisers with the objective having planted about half-an-acre of the District High School ground in potatoes and pumpkins. These crops are in a flourishing state of progress toward maturity. The seeds involved in this effort were donated by publicspirited citizens. It would appear that some folk are making a systematic business of robbing orchards in the country districts around Waipukurau. Several residents have reported that their trees have been stripped of plums and peaches and in one instance black currants and loganberries were taken.
