HUSBAND & WIFE DROWNED ROWBOAT CAPSIZES YOUNG DAUGHTER SAVED By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Auckland, Jan. 25. A radio engineer named Peter Charles Muir Mclntosh, aged 31, and his wife, Lucy Morris Mclntosh, aged 29, were drowned in the Waiuku Channel of Manukau Harbour yesterday morning. They were out fishing in a rowboat, which capsized, throwing them and their daughter, Madge, aged 8, into the water. Two boats hastened to the rehcue, and Warren Brown took the girl ashore, while two other men endeavoured tor remove the fishing lines in which the Mclntoshes had become entangled. Succeeding in this effort, they took the couple ashore, and artificial resuscitation was attempted for a long time, but only the child recovered. Five children, of whom Madge is the eldest, are orphaned. YOUTH DROWNED. Christchurch, Jan. 25. David Bell Marshall, aged 18, of Killinchy, was drowned while swimming in a deep pool yesterday, sinking half.way across. It is presumed that he was attacked by cramp. DEATH UNDER UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. Hamilton, Jan. 25. Roderick McClaren Malcolm, aged 19 years, was killed under unusual circumstances at Te Rapa yesterday. With some companions he was practising steer-riding for the forthcoming gymkana, when the animal threw him. As he was falling the animal struck ' him under the chin with its horns, 1 fracturing hi. neck.

BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR. Wellington, Jan. 25. After he had been missing from his home for three and a half-days, the body of James Alexander Hume, aged 50, employed as a labourer, was found floating in the water at Island Bay on Saturday afternoon. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. Palmerston N., Jan. 25. John Errol, employed as a mason, aged 17, residing with his parents at Grey street, Palmerston North, was killed when his motor cycle capsized over the bank at Reid’s Line, near Runnythorpe, at 7.45 last evening. His companion, who was in the sidecar, escaped, being thrown clear. A sad feature of the accident was that the deceased had just been to Bunnythorpc to attend the funeral of Elwin, the young man who was killed at the motor cycle sports at Marton on Friday. He had afterwards assisted Elwin’s father with the milking. When returning home on the downward grade, close to the intersection, deceased is stated to have applied his brakes with the result that the eycle, which had gained momentum, capsized over the bank. Deceased was thrown with such violence that his neck was broken. MAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Wellington, Jan. 25. Daniel Hill, who was seriously injured in a motor-cycle collision with a tram on Friday afternoon, died in the Wellington Hospital yesterday. Stanley Watson and Jack O’Keefe, the other riders of the motor-cycle, are still under treatment. Hill was a married man without children. WOMAN BATHER DROWNED. Wellington, January 25. While bathing near the wharf at Day’s Bay yesterday at midday, Mrs Christina Hannah, of 60 Rak'au road, Hataitai, was drowned. Mrs Hannah was one of a party of bathers who, when playing a game near the wharf, got out of their depth. As one of them, Miss Cowan, could not swim, she was mmediately in difficulties, and Mr A. Gitlieb went to her rescue. In her struggles Miss Cowan struck him on the head with her elbow, half stunning him, so that the attention of the others was occupied in their rescue. It was not until the party had returned to the shore that Mrs Hannah ’s absence was not ced. After an hour’s delay a search was made for Mrs Hannah’s body, but no trace of it could be found Mrs Hannah, who was on holiday at Day’s Bay with her husband, was 30 years of age and a native of Lancashire. She arrived in New Zealand four years ago.
