COLLISION ON THE THAMES

NINE DROWNED. AN UNLUCKY SPOT. By Telegraph—Press Association. (Received 30, 2.30 p.m.) London, Dec. 29. An unlucky spot on the Thames, known as Galleons Reach, near Woolwich, where, in 1878, the pleasure steamer Princess Alice sank in a col. lision with the loss of nearly 700 lives, was the scene of a collision between the well-known steamship, American Trader, from New York, and the tug Royalist. The latter sank in the darkness, and nine were drowned. There was only one survivor.
