FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND MANY PARTS MENACED. TRAFFIC COMPLETELY DISORGANISED. (United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 10. 10.10 a.m.) Brisbane, December 10. Floods continue to menace many parts of the State. Traffic is completely disorganised in several districts, and a number of settlers are isolated and running short of provisions. Widespread damage is likely. As a result of the torrential downpours, the floodwaters entered several Brisbane suburbs, shops being inundated. The manager of the State Wheat Board estimates that the yield of the incoming harvest has been reduced from 6,000,000 to 3,000,000 bushels. SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. THREE DEATHS BY DROWNING. A severe thunderstorm at Toowoomba was responsible for the death of a young woman, Annie (Bailey, and a youth, Harold Howard, when aft improvised dam broke, and a twelve-foot wall of water swept over the farm, overtaking the couple. They were engulfed and disappeared. Later Howard’s body was discovered three miles away. The woman’s body has not yet been found. Two people are missing from Blanchview-, and arc believed to be drowned. All the northern inland rivers in New South Wales are now threatened with floods. A young man was drowned in a flooded creek near Lismore. N.S.W. ACCOUNTS. SHORTAGE IN REVENUE. lUniteu Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 10, 10.0 a.m.Sydney, December 10. The State Government accounts for the live months of the financial year show a shortage of £8,077,369 in revenue, compared with expenditure. Revenue was £15,013,770 and expenditure £23.091,139. Compared with the same period last year, there was an increase of £1,941,315 in expenditure and a decrease of £930,044 in receipts. ELECTION CAMPAIGN. MR. BRUCE ON WAY HOME. (Received 10, 10.45 a.m.) London, Dec. 9. The Hon. S. M. Bruce, who is on his way home, will be faced with the problem of keeping in touch with Lis electorate and the general situation. He hopes that the ship’s wireless, in addition to cables at iutermediate ports, will minimise the disadvantages.
