RADIO IN HAWKE’S BAY
SUPPORTING B CLASS STATIONS. CURTAILMENT OF SERVICE OBJECTED TO. At the annual meeting of the H.B. Radio Society held in Hastings last night the following resolution was unanimously carried. “That this society write to the Post-master-General urging, on behalf of radio listeners in Hawke’s Bay, that when the Government takes over control of the New Zealand broadcasting system there be no curtailment of B class station broadcasting in this area. “In support of this request this society draws the attention of tho Government to tho well recognised fact that on account of its peculiar geographical situation reception from tho YA stations is more or less impossible in the Hawke’s Bay area, as has been frequently proved b- correspondence between the society and the Broadcasting Company. This is further borne out by the fact that after making tests in this district the Broadcasting Company made a definite promise that in the event of its license being renewed, it would immediately erect at least one relay station in the Hastings-Napier district. With the coming of the ‘B’ class stations, however, the desire for a relay station was eliminated as far as Hawke’s Bay listeners are concerned and the society points out that it was only the splendid service rendered by the ‘B’ class stations which quietened local listeners in their demand for better service from the YA stations. It is felt that if the present hours of service from local ‘B’ stations are curtailed it will not be in the best interests of either the listeners or those in control of broadcasting.’’
