ASSAULT ADMITTED
YOUTH'S ATTACK ON TAXIDRIVER. IPer Preen Ansoelation.l Wellington, Dec. 30. Admitting that he ordered a taxidriver into a secluded area in order to rob him and so obtain money easily to enable him to get back to Nelson, Thomas James, labourer, 18, pleaded guilty to-day to a charge of assaulting Brian Frederick Smuts Kennedy, taxi-driver, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Kennedy said that he was struck over the left eye by the accused and managed to grapple with %ud hold him while the pair walked to the telephone. James pleaded that he was only a bov and would never do it again, and asked to be let go. Later the accused informed the police that he was desperate. A piece of lead pipe was found in the car and James admitted that he had used it in the assault.
