Richard George Clifton, canvasser, aged 20, pleaded not guilty to-day to a charge of theft of money while a servant of Cash Orders Ltd., and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. It is alleged that in statements to the police Clifton admitted stealing the office key to a strong-room and having a duplicate made, and that he incriminated two men, who, he declared, used the key and subsequently gave him some of the proceeds of tie theft. In a separate statement to the police, however, he said he alone was concerned with the theft- Bail was allowed on the accused’s bond of £2OO and one surety of £2OO or two of £lOO each. He was ordered to report to the police daily.
