H.B. J.C. MEETING OPENS IN BEAUTIFUL WEATHER GUINEAS TO LADY PAM. Real spring weather prevailed for the H.B. Jockey Club’s meeting held on the Hastings racecourse this afternoon, And the indieidations are for a successful fixture. The course is in splendid order, having dried up well under the westerly wind and the sun. There was not a big attendance when the first race commenced at 12.30, but as the afternoon wore on tho crowd considerably increased, and when the Guineas was run there was a very fair number present. This morning Mr. J. B. Gaisford disposed of his Callaghan—Dodo gelding Call Again, to Mr. G. C. Swinnerds, of Hastings, and tho gelding raced in tho hurdles in his new owner’s colours. TOMOANA HANDICAP HURDLES, Of 140 sovs; 12 mile. 1. Mr. G. C. Swinnerd’s b g Call Again, by Callaghan— Dodo, syrs (M. Nicholls), 10.9 .... 1 6. Miss M. J. Douglas’s b g Kaikaoroa, 6yrs (A. Griffiths), 9-0 2 4. Mr B. G. Brisco’s bg Fiery Comet, aged (R. Miles), 9.0 .. 3 (Winner trained by M. Williams, Otaki.)

Also started: 2 Whakaue 9.13, 3 Tall Timber 9.3, 5 Heartache 9.5. On being let go Heartache went to the front from Kaokaoroa. Entering the straight the first time and coming over tho hurdle at the top of the straight the order was Heartache Kaikaoroa, Call Again, and Whakaue. Along the back they bunched, Whakaue and Call Again going up on the outside of Kaokaoroa, who was still leading at the turn for home. Over tho last fence Call Again challenged Kaokaoroa, to forge ahead and win comfortably by two and a-half lengths. Fiery Comet was in third position, a length and a-half behind. Time, 3.19 2-5. Tho big field got away well after some delay. Souchong flashed out to gain a good lead from Grand Chaco and Black Acre. Souchong turned into the straight ahead of tho favourite, Sympathetic, Black Acre, Gran Chaco, Pewa and Futurist. In a splendid finish Souchong held on long enough to win by a length and a half from Sympathetic, with Pewa a length behind, Time, 1.9 1-5. Futurist was fourth. GLENARAY HANDICAP. From a good start Kahikatoa went to the front from Whakaari, who was overtaken in the back stretch by Fitz Quex. The order at the railway road bend was Kahikatoa, Fitz Quex, Whakaari, Sir Limond and Acmil. Moving up fast, Acmil was lying behind Kahikatoa, Whakaari and Fitz Quez turning for home, with Sir Limond and Desert Lad on the outside. Kahikatoa hung on to beat Acmil by a head, the favourite, Fitz Quex, being a length further back. Time, 1.58. Sir Limond was fourth.

HAWKE’S BAY GUINEAS. 1 Lady Pam 1 5 Simba ~ ■■ 2 2 Paratoo 3 Scratched: Running Over, Huntingdon, Rapallo, Set Fair. Won by two lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 1.41 3-5. When they settled down Simba was showing tho way to Paratoo, Lady Pam and Sporting Chance. Along the back stretch Lady Pam and Sporting Chance moved up ahead of Simba and Tripping. Coming into the straight the order was Lady Pam, Full Crop, Pakitero, Tripping, Simba, Sporting Chance and Paratoo. The leader carried on to win by two lengths. Simba came up fast to beat Paratoo for second place by four lengths. Pakitere was fourth. SPRING HANDICAP 1 MY OWN 1 5 VALSIER 2 3 HYNANNA 3 Scratched; Zippor. GERALDINE RACES. [Per Press association.l Orari, September 27. For the second day of the Geraldine Racing Club’s Meeting tho weather conditions are favourable after light rain overnight. All started Won by a length; four lengths between second and third, lime, 3.15 2-5. Wainui Hack. —2 Royal Love 1. 1 Royal Limond 2, 3 Night Recital 3. Scratched; Minerval. Won by two lengths; a head between second and third. Time, 1.20 4-5.
