LATE CABLES IN BRIEF. Art Treasure Sale: At Vienna yesterday, the sale of art treasures belonging to the late Dr. Figdor attracted connoisseurs from all parts of the world. Thirty-six pieces of fifteenth century tapestry totalled £57,560, of which Tournai Gobelin, eleven by twelve feet, representing a law court scene, was bought for the Copenhagen Museum for £20,300. Even a piece of Persian carpet six feet by four and a-half feet was sold for £3,780. Dr. Figdor’s pictures will be sold in Berlin in the autumn. Newspapers Photo-radioed: For the first time a newspaper was spread out on waves of ether and picked up intact by a steamer, Stem of America, when nearing Plymouth, England. The first page of the “Evening World” was sent by the Radio Corporation’s new photoradio apparatus. The pictures and type were reproduced as clearly as in the city. Bank Messenger Shot.—A Leipzig bank messenger carrying £750 was held up by three men, who shot him in the stomach, snatched the money and rushed away in a car, threading skilfully through the traffic while pursued by a fire brigade, ambulance and private cars and later by the police. The thieves fired recklessly at their pursuers and shot a workman. Their own car was eventually damaged and they transferred to a tramcar and took control and drove in a frenzied manner, but finally abandoned the tramcar and disappeared. A Wet Embassy: The British Embassy at 'Washington, under its official seal and permit, has received a full consignment of assorted liquors, which camo from the ship Baltimore under heavy guard. This is the first liquor shipment to the Embassy since Sir Esme Howard declined to receive liquors in Mav, 1929.
