FUNERAL OBSEQUIES.

The funeral of Mr James Landels, which took place this morning, was one of the largest and most impressive held in Hastings for many years, embodying as it did all classes and creeds in the Hawke’s Bay province, and beyond the provincial boundaries. The length of the motor-car procession was such that the head of the gathering was well up Maraekakaho road, on its way to the Hastings cemetery, before the last car had turned from Nelson street to Heretaunga street, and the atmosphere created by the laige gathering was one of an intense sorrow, which bore testimony to the deep regard and affection in which the late Mr Landels was hell. The Rev. Mortimer-Jones (Anglican) in the absence of the l‘reshytei"iin clergyman (the Rev. 1). J 1. Shaw) conducted the Presbytenan service at the graveside.
