Mr. F. C. Wilkinson left Hastings this morning for Christchurch on business.

The Prime Minister (Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) left for Rotorua last night. He will be absent from Wellington for about a month.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Mathews returned to Hastings on Sattfrday night after spending a holiday in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

The condition of Mr Denton Wyatt, who was injured as a result of a collision in Avenue road on Wednesday last, is reported to bo as satisfactory as possible.

Mrs. Eliza Ormiston, the wife of the late Mr. William Ormiston, died at Onehunga on Saturday in her 102nd year, having been born on August 30th, 1928. She arrived in New Zealand 69 years ago.—Press Assn.

The Rev. E. and Mrs, Nicholls, and Mr. A. H. Simms, of Hastings, left by car to-day for Hawera to attend the central auxiliary meetings of the Baptist Union which are being held there this week.

A large gathering at Wai-o-Matatini (Poverty Bay) yesterday witnessed the unveiling of the memorial to Lady Ngata, the ceremony being performed by the Hon. G. W. Forbes. There was also unveiled a memorial to Makarini Ngata, the son of the Native Minister, Mr. K. S. Williams, M.P., performing the ceremony.— Press Assn.

The funeral of Mr. S. McPhee took place last Friday afternoon. The first portion of the burial service was held at tho Hastings Baptist Church, which was attended by a largo and sorrowing circle of friends. The Rev. E. Nicholls officiated, and also conducted the last sad rites at the Havelock North Cemetery. Tho many beautiful floral tributes testified to the high esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held.

The Hon. G. W. Forbes, after attending native functions at Wai-o-Matatini, visited To Araroa to-day, and is expected to return to Gisborne to-night. The Hon. E. A. Ransom arrived‘ at Gisborne last night from Rotorua, and went south this morning. Mr. Forbes formally received an application from Sir Apirana Ngata that an Agricultural Department officer should be stationed in Waiapu, whore dairying amongst the Maoris is expending.—Press Assn.

Tho death occurred this morning of Mr. Roderick Macdonald, an old retainer on the Maraekakaho Estate—under Sir Donald McLean and under the late Sir Douglas McLean—at the age of 83 years. He was a shepherd, and was well-known throughout ‘ho district, where he was very popular, not only amongst his fellow employees, but amongst his acquaintances generally. The funeral will leave Maraekakaho to-morrow (Tuesday) at 2.15 p.m,, arriving at tho Hastings Cemetery at 3 p.m.
