DECREASE IN EXPORT VALUES.
EFFECT OF WOOL SLUMP.
Wellington, March 6. While the marked decline In values la largely cancelled by the largely increased exports of butter, the effect M the depressed state of the wool market le clearly shown in the latest oversea trade figure*, those for January, issued yesterday by the Customs Department.
The value of the January export* was over £2,000,000 les* than for th* corresponding month last year, approximately three-quarters of the decrease being accounted for by lower value and lessened shipments of wool. The exports during January were valued at £6,377,853 as against £B, 449,931 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of £2.072,078. While the import* for the month were only £128,458 Im* than for January 1929. the big decreaaa in exports hae very nearly halved the excess of exports over import*.
