HASTINGS COURT
(Before Messrs Foster Brook and A. A. George, J’s.P.). TO-DAYCASES. William McGrath pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and with refusal to leave licensed premises on being requested to do so. He was convicted and discharged on the first charge and remanded till Wednesday next on the second.
William Thomas was charged with being an idle and disorderly person without lawful means of support. Constable Hislop stated that at 4.45 p.m. on March 4 he saw a man give the defendant money in Hcretaunga street. Thomas was then under the influence of liquor. Tnerc bad been numerous complaints from people in the district, about the defendant, who had been going round hogging at houses, lie had no money in ids po iiession when searched at the police station.
William Thomas -aid he was ~dt the kind of man that ‘ cadged,” and he did not go roundl to .he in Hastings. He had L..n out of wots and went to the i übii,' vVorks and the Returned Soldiers' Chib in Nn-
pier for a job without success. He was wounded in the head at the war, and a few drinks had a bad effect on him.
Defendant was convicted and riven one month's imprisonment.
