SUITCASE MYSTERY

SCOTLAND YARD SILENT

OFFICIALS UNABLE TO DECIDE.

MRS PRESCOTT QUESTIONED,

(United Press Association—By Cable Copyright.)

(Received 13, 11.0 a.m.) London, Nov, 12.

Scotland Yard is preserving a stolid silence in regard to the suitcase mystery, replying that _it will make no statement till investigations are completed. It has been ascertained that Mrs Prescott visited Britain with the object of chancery litigation, declaring that someone was endeavouring to defeat her claim. She instructed her solicitors to contest the case. People in whom she confided her plans are of opinion that worry seriously upset her. It is gathered that the best brains of Scotland Yard hitherto have been unable to decide whether the charred bones are associated with the recent murder. It is significant that the chief inspector, having exhausted inquiries at Yarkhill is concentrating on London with a view to deciding the. ownership of the suitcase and the articles there'in.

PROBLEM OF THE DIARY.

(United Press Association—By cable— Copyright.) (Received 13, 10.25 a.m.) London. Nov. 12. In connection with tl,e suitcase mystery, detectives questioned Mrs Eva Prescott, who is residing in the village of Yarkhill in Herefordshire, concerning a diary found in the suitcase with the bones of the woman. Mrs Prescott said: “How the diary came to be in the place they found it is a mystery. The diary must have been stolen and used deliberately to involve me, by someone with a spite against me.”
