SALVATION ARMY

ARRIVAL OF NEW COMMISSIONER. WELCOMED AT~WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) Wallington November 12. Commissioner John Cunningham, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, accompanied by his wife and three children, arrived at Wellington to-day by the Ulimaroa from Sydney. A large gathering of officers and mem» bers was on the wharf to welcome the newcomers, including Colonel Taylbr, the chief secretary, and Mrs Taylor, Colonel and Mrs Gunn, the heads of the departments and the whole of the Training College staff. Replying to the welcome, Commiasioner Cunningham said they were ‘‘right glad to be in New Zealand. We have brought our hearts with us, and are here with all the zeal and energy we possess to help you and forward the work of the Army in New Zealand.”

When asked if he had a message for the Army in New Zealand and the people of New Zealand, he said: “I want to assure the Army in New Zealand that having myself become a Salvationist 40 years ago and having given the very best of my days, my youth and my strength to the Army, I am a thoroughly devoted Salvationist, believing in' the Army’s teaching and loyal to its purposes. Every energy I possess will be devoted to the furthering of its work and the bringing about of its great object.” To the people of New Zealand he said that the best in him of mind and heart and spirit would be given for the uplift of the people, the furthering of every good cause, and the blessing of the whole land.
