STORTFORD LODGE SALE

GOOD QUALITY CATTLE OFFERED EASIER PRICES FOR FAT SHEEP There was a moderately big entry of fat cattle at Stortford Lodge to-day, many of the pens offered being of exceptionally prime quality. Several pens of heifers from Mr. L. Higgins were of outstanding quality, and fetched prices ranging from £l4 2/to £l4 18/-, while a pen of four bullocks topped off by Mr. G. Purvess on account of Mr. R. Harding were the primest line seen in the beef pens this year. These realised £lB. There was also an unusually big entry of store cattle for this time of the year, some of the lines being of attractive quality. Store cattle sold well, even for inferior sorts and there was no lack of competition. There was a big yarding of dairy cattle, including a number of springing heifers. These did not appear to sell so well as at recent sales, probably because most dairy farmers have now their full complement for the season-

Fat sheep were represented by two full races, and possibly on account of the increased supply showed an easing of prices equal to about 2/- per head on last week. There were, however, an unusual number of pens of superior quality. Store sheep were not yarded in any considerable numbers though there were more than last week. Several pens of fair to good hoggets sold well, registering a rise in values of 1/- to 2/- on recent sales. The store sheep sale was in progress when wo went to press.
